In the heart of San Diego’s Balboa Park, the International Cottages welcomed its newest addition: The House of Chamorros.
The cottages are a collection of 34 houses that host cultural displays and artifacts of distinct nations and territories. The grand opening of the house took place Saturday in California and drew attendance from numerous cultural performers, vendors, dignitaries from Guam and Saipan, and crowds with ties to the Marianas.
Opening festivities kicked off at 10 a.m. with a house blessing and benediction, followed by House of Chamorros president Jeff Macaraeg, former Congresswoman Madeleine Bordallo and retired Rear Admiral Peter Gumataotao, who delivered remarks.
